Dan A. Rowan - Obituary

Dan A. Rowan, age 83 of Gurley, NE passed away at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO, on Wednesday, September 12th.

Funeral Services Tuesday, September 18th in the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with Pastor Corey Jenkins officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Dan's name to the First United Methodist Church or the Gurley Fire Department.

Dan Arthur Rowan was born on September 14, 1934 to Arthur Franklin and Etta Angie (Christensen) Rowan in the Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Dalton, NE. Dan was baptized at the Community Methodist Church. He attended grade school at District 51, ninth grade in Gurley and three years at the School of Agriculture in Curtis, NE, graduating in 1952. Dan then attended two years of college at Colorado A&M in Fort Collins, CO. On November 28, 1952 Dan was united in marriage to Martha Marilee Hammond at the First United Methodist Church. To this union three children were born, Michael, Jeffery and Julie. Dan helped his father farm the homestead and in 1956 he enlisted in the United States Army, receiving his Honorable Discharge July 1958 and returned home to work at the National Guard Armory in Sidney. Dan was also employed at Sidney Flooring, Brinn and Jensen selling carpet and in 1970 he purchased Powell Hardware. Dan also worked at TNT Lumber and served as a Crop Adjuster for several years.

Dan was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church and the Gurley Lion's Club.

Survivors include his wife: Marilee; son: Michael and wife Julie; daughter: Julie Armbruster and husband Doug; grandchildren: Matthew Rowan, Aaron Biltoft and husband Scott, Joshua Rowan, Whitney Armbruster, Cody Armbruster, Amy Rowan and Dru Rowan and (1) brother: Tim Rowan and wife Jo of Columbus, NE and numerous extended family and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents: Art and Etta, (1) son: Jeff, (1) brother: Ned, in-laws: Cliff and Bessie Hammond and grandchildren: Douglas and Kayla Armbruster.
