Saturday night into Sunday morning should have been a quiet period in Lodgepole. It was interrupted by a fire at the home of Teri and Dusty Payton, a fire that consumed an RV, their home and nearly all of their belongings.
Teri and Dusty Payton and their children were awakened at about 3 a.m. Sunday morning to a fire. Lodgepole Volunteer Firefighters were dispatched at about 3:17 a.m., according to Wade Dickinson of the Lodgepole Fire Department.
"Everybody got out," he said.
He added the property was a total loss.
A gofundme.com page has been set up to assist the family.
There is also an effort to collect clothes and personal needs for the family. The family includes a six-year-old daughter and a special-needs son.
Alyssa Sanders, Deputy State Fire Marshal No. 8714, Public Information Officer/Fire Prevention Coordinator for the Nebraska State Fire Marshall Agency, said the fire was "accidental in nature. Electrical malfunction was a contributing factor to ignition."
