Downtown Sounds Hosts John King Friday Night

Country music artist John King will be on stage Friday night for the July 7 Downtown Sounds event.

The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. at Hickory Street Square in downtown Sidney.

From a "little mountain town in Georgia," King's website biography says, he took drive, raw talent and business savvy toward opening for award-winning artists, writing No. 1 songs and touring more than 150 dates a year.

"I started off working rock construction, putting in fireplaces and walkways at about 14 or 15. It was tough, but it built character," he says.

He cites his parents as the main reason he got into music. His tastes in music were formed early by the southern rock sounds of Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC and The Black Crowes. He developed an interest in the music of Garth Brooks in the 1990s.

After high school, he attended the University of Georgia to study music. He released his first single in 2017, "I Still Pick Up," and recently "Never Wanna Be," and "New Boots."

Downtown Sounds is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
