Class Of 1968 Planning 50th Reunion

Alumni of Sidney High School invited to attend the 50th Reunion of the Sidney High School Class of 1968 to be held in Sidney on Aug. 17 and 18, 2018.

The cost for the weekend will be $100 per couple or $50 per person not including lodging.

A very casual, catered meal and social time is planned for Friday evening at the Comfort Inn. Rooms are available at a reduced rate. Those who are staying with family or elsewhere in town are invited to the Comfort Inn to eat and socialize on Friday evening. This will be a BYOB (all beverages) event.

We may have the option of school tours on Saturday morning: the new high school and possibly some elementary buildings. Due to unknown maintenance schedules, announcement of those tours and times cannot be made until Friday evening.

The Cheyenne County Historical Society will have museums open on Saturday from 1 p.m. to to 4 p.m. This includes the museum and other buildings at the Fort Sidney Complex, Boot Hill Cemetery, and Fort Lookout. Guided tours are available.

Saturday evening will be the Class of 1968 banquet at Dude’s Steak House. Reservations for the meal are required to give restaurant staff a final count in advance. Food will only be prepared for the number of paid reservations. Classmates who served in the military and those who have passed away will be honored that night.

Connie Kuhns is preparing a sixties play list for Friday night’s gathering at the Comfort Inn. Also, she will coordinate a Reunion Wall display with pictures of our class, then and now. Bring a photo or two to share on the Wall: friends, family, pets, adventures. You choose it; we’d like to see it. Please include a location or brief description. Make sure your name is on the back so we can return them.

Donna Cornelius is preparing a list with addresses, emails, and phone numbers so classmates can remain in contact with each other after the Reunion.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the new Comfort Inn and Suites, 825 Hoffies Drive, Sidney, Nebraska (southeast quadrant of the east I-80 interchange). Phone: 308-254-4423. Organizers encourage alumnus to reserve rooms at this hotel. A single “home” hotel will offer more opportunity to socialize informally.

Those who have other lodging options in town can come and hang out with classmates who are staying there! They have quoted our group members a very reasonable rate of $89 a night for this weekend (plus sales and lodging taxes). Free Wi-Fi and a full breakfast are included with your room. Dogs are welcome with an additional pet fee of $25. For RV enthusiasts, Cabela’s has a campground just north of the retail store. Call (308) 254-8443. Last year the campground was first come, first served.

Individuals are responsible for booking their own rooms. Please mention the Sidney High Class of 1968 Reunion when booking your room, and we encourage you to make your reservations as soon as possible! The cutoff date is Wednesday, July 18th, 2018. After this date, blocked rooms will be released for general booking and the special rate goes away.
