Creek Valley, Potter-Dix, and Sidney’s JV golf teams traveled to Mitchell’s Scenic Knoll Golf Course to participate in the Mitchell Golf Invitational on Tuesday. Kimball’s team took top honors with a score of 323 for the round, while Alliance and Bridgeport finished second and third respectively. Bridgeport senior Eric Steven led the field with a round of 74 to take the meet honors while Kimball golfers Dillon Wise and Andrew McCloud finished second and third on the individual leaderboard.
Creek Valley finished 12th in the team competition, while Potter-Dix’s lone entrant, freshman newcomer Tobi Thompson struggled with a score of 166 in his round. Creek Valley’s team finished with a score of 463, with Michael Rahe shooting a 100, Chaz Bauer with a 106, Karl Motzkus shooting a 107, and Cooper Michelman with a 118.
The Sidney squad consisted of only three players, so they did not factor in the final team results. Burke Splichal shot a 117, Trey Douglas shot a 126, and Josh Balance shot a 129 on the day. Sidney coach Jeff Yahn was pleased with the performance of his squad, noting it was the first time any of his players had been on the course at Mitchell, and their better scores from the front nine to the back nine showed the improvement he’s looking for in the team. He also commented that Josh Balance had improved by 23 strokes over last week’s tournament at Sidney.
Although Potter-Dix’s Tobi Thompson shot a 166, Potter-Dix coach Ryan Mumm was pleased with the freshman’s performance. He noted that Tobi improved by nearly 20 strokes from front nine to back nine, which is impressive. This was the freshman’s first meet and he struggled with nerves at the start of the day, but he battled through the tournament showing great resiliance for a newcomer.
The top three teams were Kimball with a 323, Alliance with a 350, and Bridgeport with a 363.
