Senior Logan Sircy drove in four runs and homered while junior starter Zach Holtz pitched four innings for the Bulldogs as they defeated the Weldon Valley Warriors 17-2 at home in Peetz on Thursday. The game was stopped after four innings were completed due to the "mercy rule." Junior Zach Holtz pitched the entire game for the Bulldogs, shutting down the Warriors and only allowing two runs well after the game was already decided.
Zach Holtz was sharp from the start as he retired Weldon Valley in the first without giving up a run, then doubled, stole third, then scored on a Logan Sircy sacrifice fly in the bottom on the first giving the Bulldogs a lead they would never relinquish. An 11 run third inning highlighted by an inside the park home run by Sircy put the game away for the Bulldogs as Weldon Valley was only able to manage two runs, both scored late in the game.
The entire Bulldog offense had a good day at the plate, with senior Hunter White notching two RBI's on one hit, freshman Sterling Sorensen plating two RBI's off of two hits and scoring another, and junior Blake Roelle also notching two RBI's on two doubles including a shot that nearly cleared the centerfield fence. Weldon Valley senior starter Ethan Oblander was ineffective and unable to stop the Bulldogs from scoring, and was eventually replaced in the fourth inning by freshman Coy Groves, who was also ineffective and struggled to find the plate. Weldon Valley junior Cole Hall replaced Groves on the mound to finish the game. The Warrior pitching staff gave up a total of 12 hits, five walks, and hit four batters on the day.
Conversely, Zach Holtz of Peetz had an effective day on the mound for the Bulldogs, striking out 10 batters while only walking one, and giving up two earned runs. He also hit two doubles, scored three runs, and drove in another for the day. Junior Blake Roelle was perfect at the plate hitting two doubles, driving in two runs, and scoring twice. Senior Jake Curlee was two for three at the plate and scored three runs while driving in one.
With the victory the Bulldogs improved their record to 4-1 and were scheduled to face Sedgwick Valley on Tuesday.
