Peetz Blanks Briggsdale 10-0

On a beautiful early Spring day in Peetz, the Bulldogs bested the Briggsdale Falcons 10-0 in the home opener for the Peetz baseball team's 2018 season.

Coming off a 19-1 loss against the Caliche Bulldogs and having their second game against the Prarie Mustangs postponed, the Bulldogs were able to get much needed practices under their belts and turned in a game time performance that lived up to the high expectations coach Darrin Fehringer has for his team.

Senior Logan Sircy got the start and fired off four effective innings, keeping the Falcons unbalanced and off the scoreboard. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs bats heated up and provided plenty of offense that helped the home team cruise to a mercy-rule shortened four and a half inning victory.

After Sircy quickly dispatched the Falcons in the first, the Bulldogs jumped on Briggsdale starter True Miller early, putting up five runs in the first inning. The Falcon's offense could not get on track at all against Sircy, while the Bulldogs continued to score, putting up an additional two runs in the second and third innings.

The Bulldogs scored another run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 10-0, and the Falcons were in danger of having the game shortened by the "mercy rule" if they could not score at least one run in the top of the fifth.

Coach Fehringer pulled Sircy after the fourth and went with senior Tre Fehringer to start the fifth. The Falcons were able to put two aboard on an error by Sircy at shortstop and a walk, but Fehringer recovered and fired a strikeout to leave the Falcons with just two outs left.

A balk by Fehringer advanced the runners to second and third base, and set up two exciting plays that ended the game.

On the first play, Fehringer was able to field a roller hit back towards the pitcher's mound, and on the fielders choice threw out the runner trying to score at home for the second out. During the next at bat, Fehringer uncorked a wild pitch that sent the runner from third home, but Fehringer was able to cover home plate and receive the throw from the catcher and put the tag on on the runner, registering the third out, and ending the ballgame in the fifth inning with a final score of 10-0.

With the win, the Bulldogs evened their season record to 1-1. They are nest scheduled to travel to take on the Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs on Tuesday, April 3.
