Peetz Drops Baseball Opener

Spring arrived on Tuesday and with it brought the first game of the 2018 season for the Peetz Bulldogs baseball team as they traveled to Iliff to take on the Caliche Buffaloes.

Although the calendar said Spring, it was still Winter for the Bulldog's bats as they were handed a 19-1 loss in which they managed only one hit in the Mercy-Rule shortened four inning contest.

Caliche senior Brayden Nichols' pitching was too much for the Bulldogs to handle as he fired a complete four inning game giving up just one hit and one run with nine strikeouts and three walks. Peetz starting pitcher Blake Roelle was mostly ineffective for the Bulldogs, quickly giving up two runs in the first inning to the Buffaloes who then went on to score ten runs in the second inning and put the game out of reach for the visitors.

Down by 19 runs, the Bulldogs managed to score one run in the top of the fourth inning, but the game ended after the third out due to the Buffaloes being ahead by more than 10 runs with a final score of 19-1. Peetz junior Blake Roelle collected the only hit of the game for the Bulldogs, with senior Alex Curlee scoring the lone run for Peetz.

Peetz utilized four pitchers in the game, with Blake Roelle starting and pitching an inning and a third giving up four hits, seven runs, two walks, and registering no strikeouts.

In relief, senior Tre Fehringer gave up two runs and three walks, senior Logan Sircy gave up five runs, four walks and recorded one strikeout, and senior Jake Curlee gave up four runs, six walks, and earned one strikeout. Peetz was scheduled to face Prairie in New Raymer on Thursday.
