Volleyballers Compete In Area Tournaments

The Sidney Volleyball Club competed in itsfirst AAU (American Athletic Union) volleyball tournament of the season in North Platte on Feb. 18.

The 14 and under team finished first in their pool, but lost their first match of bracket play. Despite only having three practices prior to the tournament, the girls played well and the experience will help them improve and play better as a team.

The 12 and under girls squad competed in their first tournament in Hastings on March 11 and finished in the top four out of 12 teams.

They girls lost in the gold medal match to Ogallala, but coach Lu Howard was pleased with the teamwork displayed and anticipates stronger play as the girls gain experience.The Sidney Volleyball Club will be hosting several club tournaments in Sidney, the first two being scheduled for March 25 and April 22. Both the 14 and under and 12 and under teams will compete against teams including Burns, Wyo., Chadron, McCook, and Ravenna. The tournaments will be held at West Elementary in Sidney starting at 9am, and spectators are encouraged to come out and cheer the action.
