Creek Valley's Lady Storm girls basketball team lost to the Hyannis Lady Longhorns 54-40 in the finals of the D2-6 Tournament at Bridgeport on Friday Feb. 23. The loss ends the season for the Lady Storm who finish the season with a 19-9 overall record, with a district record of 4-2. The Lady Storm's season was highlighted by defeating rival Potter-Dix to win the Subdistrict D2-12 tournament, and the team showed marked improvement throughout the season under head coach Missy Koenen.
For Friday's district final game, the Lady Storm travelled to Bridgeport to face the Lady Longhorns of Hyannis, a team they had lost to at home in their first game of the season back on Dec 2 of 2017.
The Lady Longhorns came out sharp, and quickly built a lead of 18-9 by the end of the first period, and continued into the second period with a dominating 11-2 tally in favor of Hyannis to end the first half with a 29-11 lead over the Lady Storm. Although Creek Valley came out strong in the third period with sharp shooting and a much stingier defense, outscoring the Lady Longhorns in the second half 29-25 was not enough to over come the first half deficit, and the Lady Storm lost the game by a final score of 54-40.
Senior Payje Misegadis led the scoring for Creek Valley with 11 points, while senior Sami Schmid and junior Jordyn Koenen both had seven points in the loss. Creek Valley graduates seniors Misegadis and Schmid, but has two solid freshman in Jersie Misegadis and Mariah Koenen that can step up to fill the void.
