Elvin Dale Kahl, age 92 of Sidney, NE passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the Sidney Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, February 24th in the First United Methodist Church with Pastor Dan Pennington of the Calvary Baptist Church in Sidney and Pastor Corey Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday February 23 from 1-7:00 P.M. to sign Elvin's register book and leave condolences for the family. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Elvin's name to the Calvary Baptist Church, Water for Life or the donor's choice. Elvin Dale Kahl, born November 5, 1925, died February 18, 2018 Elvin was born on a farm north of Big Springs, NE, on November 5, 1925 to Nina Pocock and Leland William (Dick) Kahl, the first of three sons. The family moved into Big Springs after the death of his mother in 1930. In 1935, the family moved to Sidney, NE, where Elvin attended grade school through high school, graduating in 1943. In 1944 he volunteered for service in the Navy. He received his basic training in San Diego, CA, to North Island Naval Air Station. He returned to Sidney in 1946 and continued to work on the farm with his brothers in four counties in Nebraska and Colorado. He retired when he was 66 years old. During the winter months, when not farming, he was employed at Greenlees' Department Store for 30 years, retiring in 1982. Elvin enjoyed farming, traveling, and fishing in Minnesota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Texas, the Gulf of Mexico, Colorado and Canada. He had his pilot license and enjoyed flying up until his family came along. Elvin was united in marriage to Doloris Troutman, the love of his life, on June 19, 1949, in Sidney, Nebraska, and raised three sons, Dick, Dean and Dale.
Elvin is survived by his children, Dick (Candice) of Powell, WY, Dale, a missionary and follower of Jesus, of Kansas City, MO, and Dean a retired railroader, farmer and a follower of Jesus Christ, of Big Springs, NE, 5 grandchildren, Jarrell, Dale, Dean, Matthew and Emily (Kyle), 3 great grandchildren, Kylie, Braydon, and Kynzlee, 2 sisters-in-law, Marion Hinson of TN and Kathleen Kahl of Bellevue, NE. He is also survived by his special friend, companion, caregiver and the second love of his life, Mildred Butcher, a follower of Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents L. W. (Dick) and Nina Kahl and his wife Doloris in 1981, his brother Donald and Duane Kahl. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church where he has attended, Water for Life or donor of your choice.
