Incumbents File For Office Deadline For Challengers March 1

The Cheyenne County Clerk’s Office has posted the incumbents seeking to return to public office.

The deadline for incumbents seeking office was Feb. 15.

The Primary Election is scheduled for May 15, 2018.

An incumbent is anyone in office seeking a return to office, even if it is a different public office.

Cheyenne County Commissioners Darrell Johnson (District 2) and Philip Sanders (District 3) have petitioned to return to the commissioners office.

Assessor Sybil Prosser (Republican) is seeking to return to office. She is being challenged by Republican Melody Keller.

Paul Shaub (Republican) is seeking to return as county attorney.

Debra Hume (Republican) is seeking the District Court Clerk’s job. Adam E. Frerichs (Republican) submitted his name to be the next sheriff. Sheriff John Jenson’s name was not on the list.

Democrat Shelley Bowlin is seeking to take over as Cheyenne County Treasurer.

Roger Gallaway and Bob Olsen are seeking to return to the Sidney City Council. All Sidney city council positions are at-large.

Kelly Price and Jason Petik are on the ballot to return to the Sidney Airport Authority.

Leyton School District has three incumbents and three challengers for board positions. Incumbents are Jennifer Powell, Cary Linton and Robert Rushman. Challengers are Anne Rexroth, Lloyd Searles and Bobby Jo Holt.

Potter-Dix School District has two incumbents and two challengers for the Primary. Incumbents are Mike Rotert and Chandell Oleson while challengers are Linda Schoemaker and Betsy Galloway-Carew.

Sidney School District has two incumbents and one challenger. Michael Palmer is the new name to the list and Thomas Von Seggern and Brenda Smith are seeking to return to the board.

Creek Valley School District has two incumbents seeking board positions: Julie Koenen and Vickie Brown.

In Deuel County, incumbents Joel B. Jay (county attorney), Marica Schievelbein (assessor), Polly L. Olson (county clerk), Scott De Coste (sheriff) and William “Bill” Klingman (commissioner Swan Precinct) have filed for the Primary Election. All are listed as Republicans.

For the town of Chappell, incumbents Ernie Husman (Airport Authority Board), Mark Hardy (Airport Authority Board), Lynda L Johnson (councilwoman) and Joyce A. Vogt (councilwoman) are seeking re-election, as is mayor Steven L. Brott.

The next deadline is March 1 for non-office holders to file their candidacy.

The only requirement to be a voter in Nebraska is to be a United States citizen and a permanent resident of Nebraska; there is no minimum length of residency requirement. Also, residents can register to vote as young as 17 years of age, if they are 18 on or by Tuesday, Nov. 6, the date of the General Election.

No identification is required to vote or to register to vote.
