Officials from the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce will review plans and answer questions on a proposed project for Sidney's Hickory Square. The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20. in the Sidney City Council chambers.
Residents are encouraged to attend and ask questions, gather information on project specifics and funding, and offer community input on the downtown revitalization project.
The idea of Hickory Square started a few years ago when the City of Sidney received a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Downtown Revitalization from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development. The intent is to provide a permanent location for events like Downtown Sounds, the Farmer's Market and Christmas Events.
Cost estimates have been as much as $800,000 for the entire project, although Chamber of Commerce CEO Denise Wilkinson said the project may be completed in phases.
City administration has indicated support for the project, based on overall community support. No city funds have been approved, and Ed Sadler, city manager, has said the chamber must secure funding separately other than city funds.
