Nebraska performer Daniel Christian and his band will be in Sidney Feb. 16.
The concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. with ticket prices $12 for adults, $6 for seniors and students and WNCC $5. Children under five are free. Tickets are available at the door.
The concert is hosted by the High Plains Arts Council and will be held at the Sidney High School Performing Arts Center. The Feb. 16 performance in Sidney will include a project he recorded with singer-songwriter Mark Adams who grew up in Sidney.
His faith often intertwines a blend of country, folk and rockabilly. Christian doesn't define himself or the band by a specific genre of music. Instead, he calls himself a singer-songwriter. Some of the music influence likely came from his mother who had a diverse record collection and his father who played drums for a cover band. The cover band played everything from Waylon Jennings to The Cars.
"That seems to cover a variety of genres, and we can be all over the map, stylistically. Like most people, I love all kinds of music. We have pop/rock tunes. We have a country/folk record. We have an album of songs about faith and spirituality," Christian said.
He said each song is unique, but the consistency is he likes to tell stories. Christian said this show will be enhanced by a talented band with drums, bass and guitar solos.
"I have the privilege of playing with some of the most sought-after musicians in Lincoln," he said. "We all serve regularly in churches around town."
Christian was a high school English teacher for five years before transitioning to full-time music in 2008. Prior to that, he held compose the school song for Johnson County Central High School in Tecumseh, Neb., his hometown, according to the Daniel Christian music web page.
His debut album, "I Am Merely Sand," was released in 2007. The song "New Sun Rising" charted in the Top 100 of the International Association of Independent Recording Artists.
His second album, "Hold Your Breath," was released in the spring of 2010 and features Mike Flynn's "The Folk Sampler" program on National Public Radio (NPR).
His 2013 release, the third installment, is entitled "Speak." The album features the song "Dandelion" which was selected as one of the 10 inspirational finalists in the 14th Annual Great American Song Contest.
Christian completed a coast to coast tour in 2014.
