Peetz Boys Basketball Adds Two More Wins

The powerhouse Peetz boys basketball team tallied two more victories in their undefeated season by defeating the Sedgwick County Cougars and the Weldon Valley Warriors by wide margins last week.

The Bulldogs upped their record to an impressive 11-0 (5-0 in league), and with a 62.1 points per game average lead their league in scoring by nearly 20 points per game over the next highest ranked team.

First up, the Sedgwick County Cougars visited Peetz putting their own undefeated record to the test against the Bulldog’s high scoring offensive attack. This matchup had been touted as the last real challenge for Peetz, as they expect to continue their dominance against weaker opponents through the remaining season schedule and the Cougars were regarded as the team that could end Peetz’s winning streak.

After the first period, the Bulldogs were up 17-11, and it seemed that the Cougars would not be up to the challenge of knocking off the Peetz team. But the second quarter marked a turnaround, and the Cougars were able to hold off the Bulldog’s offense while making timely shots of their own, and at the half the Cougars led, 29-28.

But the second half showed why the Bulldogs are considered the best team in Northeastern Colorado, matching the Cougars scoring with offensive bursts of their own, and wearing down the visitors as the third period progressed. At the end of the period, the Bulldogs were up 47-44, and continued to cruise through the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points against Sedgwick’s five, ending up with a comfortable 67-49 victory.

Peetz senior Logan Sircy led the scoring with 22 points, and senior Gabe Naegele had an outstanding game with eight points scored, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.

Next up, the Bulldogs traveled to Weldona to take on the Weldon Valley Warriors, who had struggled all year and were in search of their first win.

The Peetz squad proved to be far too tough for the Warriors to handle, and a first quarter explosion by the Bulldogs put the Warriors in a 27-6 hole at the end of the period. Even with workman-like efforts in the second and third periods, the Warriors could not pick up any ground against the Bulldogs, and ended the game losing by 49 points, 85-36.

The Bulldog’s face their next opponent tonight as they travel to New Raymer to face the 4-9 Prairie Mustangs.
