Creek Valley’s Storm varsity basketball teams had success in the games prior to the start of the Minuteman Activities Conference (MAC) Basketball Tournament last week. The girl’s team rung up two convincing victories, while the boys settled for a split of the two games.
Creek Valley boy’s head coach Roger Behrends said, “We’ve been playing some very good basketball since the Christmas vacation. We’ve lost a few, but have done some really good things. The kids are working hard and we’re looking forward to a solid performance in the conference tournament.”
The boys team had a tough time last Thursday visiting a tough Paxton team, losing 65-35. The Storm hung in against the Tigers until the home team rung up 41 points in the third quarter en route to a 30 point victory. The Storm had a much better night against Pawnee, coming back from a seven point deficit after the first quarter to take control of the game and outscore the visiting Coyotes in the last three quarters en route to a 55-44 victory.
The Lady Storm continued their winning ways, crushing Paxton 56-14, and handily beating Pawnee 61-38. Creek Valley came out strong against Paxton, turning steals into quick points, and played a consistent game against Pawnee, outscoring their opponents in every quarter of the contest.
Lady Storm head coach Missy Koenen said, “We’re looking forward to the upcoming (MAC) tournament, and have a goal of getting past the first round. Last year we were knocked out in the first round, so this year the girls make it past the first, and all the way to the Championship game.”
