Sidney Area Households Local Residents Encouraged to Participate in Labor Study

LINCOLN - The Nebraska Departments of Economic Development and Labor urge households in the Sidney, Nebraska area to participate in a study of the employment situation in and around Sidney. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Bureau of Sociological Research mailed surveys this week to a sampling of households in the Panhandle and Northern Colorado.

Sidney Economic Development Partnership initiated the study, which follows a series of similar studies conducted throughout Nebraska to determine how many people within an area are available and willing to take a new job. “The Sidney community has an outstanding workforce and the survey will help confirm this to companies that may want to locate in the area,” said Sidney Economic Development Director Melissa Norgard.

The survey asks questions about employment history, including commute time, education, skills, and training, as well as factors like pay, schedule and benefits. The results will be compiled for a report next spring detailing the employment characteristics of the Sidney area, including factors considered when changing employment or re-entering the workforce.

The questions are for both workers and non-workers, including those within commuting distance of Sidney. The adult in each surveyed household age 19 or older who will have the next birthday is encouraged to respond. All results will be reported so that no individual can be identified.
