Dairy Queen supports Shop with a Cop

They're seen patrolling the streets, meeting with people in their worst of moments, sometimes uncomfortably sometimes as the knight in moments of stress.

The "Shop with a Cop" program is designed to bridge the gap between the Sidney community and the police department.

Living paycheck to paycheck, sometimes stretching that last dollar to its breaking point, is seldom fun, and even stressing when it occurs in the holiday season. There are families in Sidney and communities like it that likely are quietly wishing for a way to offer their son or daughter some type of Christmas gift.

Shop with a Cop is designed to build a relationship between the community and the police department, and to help make a family's holiday a little brighter.

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 43, along with the Sidney Police Department, welcomes the opportunity to work with families in our community, especially those with underprivileged children who may not have the same opportunities as others their age, according to the program application. The Sidney Police Department is in its second year hosting a local version of the program.

The program is for children between ages of six and 14 who live in Cheyenne County. The deadline to apply is Dec. 1. Families will be notified beginning Dec. 5 and Shop With A Cop will be held Dec. 10. A child participating in the program must be able to separate from families while shopping, and the child must be present on the shopping day in order to apply. Applications to participate in the program are available at local businesses and at the police department. Applications are to be returned to the Sidney Police Department.
