Dennis D. Larson - Obituary

Dennis D. Larson, age 90, of Gurley, passed away October 22, 2017 in Sidney, Nebraska.

Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M., Saturday October 28th at the United Church of the Plains in Dalton with Pastor Wayne Pouppirt officiating. Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Friday from 1-7:00 P.M. to sign Dennis' register book and leave condolences for the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dennis' name to the Leyton FFA Chapter. Dennis was born to Elmer and Ellen Larson on July 23, 1927, on the family farm 10 miles west of Gurley. Later his family moved 2 miles southeast of that farm to the farm where he spent the rest of his life. He attended a local country grade school and graduated from Sidney High School at the age of 16. Dennis was inducted in the Army, March 21, 1951. His basic training was at Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri. He served his country in the Korean Conflict from December 19, 1951 until October 19, 1952. He was discharged from Walter Airforce Base in Texas on December 20, 1952. On June 5, 1955 he married Roberta VanCleave at the Grace Lutheran Church in Gurley, Nebraska. Dennis was a part of the Gurley Baseball Team in the late 1940's and early 1950's. He was a board member of the Gurley Telephone Company, Grace Lutheran Church, Cheyenne County 4-H Council and the District 76 School. He was also the leader of the BunkerHillBillies 4-H Club for many years.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Roberta; Son, Jim Larson (Karen); Son, Tim Larson (Andrea); and Daughter, Denise Muzzey (Michael). Grandchildren: Michele (Andy) Dishman, Matthew Larson, Dustin Larson, Devon Larson, Trevor Gaston, Lane Gaston, Erin Winfield, Travis Manka, Rebecca Muzzey and Kristian Muzzey. Great grandchildren, Owen and Tara Dishman.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; five brothers; Dolan, DeVere, Donald, Duane and Delbert.
