The day was warm with a touch of breeze, just enough to remind everyone they were perched on the Peetz plateau. The weather was supportive of the community and homecoming celebration. Children were throwing the ball just outside of the endzone. Younger children were excited by the action on the field, challenging a parent's firm grip of safety. On the field, the Peetz Bulldogs were giving their supporters are reason for homecoming pride as they added another mark to the win column, defeating Briggsdale High School 49-8.
The Peetz Bulldogs started the contest a little bit off of their game, according to coach Scott Sorenson.
"We came out a little sluggish," Sorensen said.
The soft start still resulted in the Bulldogs earning 12 points while keeping Briggsdale's Falcons off of the sccoreboard.Even though Peetz dominated the scoreboard, the visiting Falcons made the Bulldogs work for the win.
"They're a little better than I expected," Sorensen said.
The Bulldogs continued their quest toward a homecoming win in the second quarter, adding 22 points to the scoreboard, ending the first half with a 34-0 game. The Bulldogs returned to the field afte the homecoming celebrations to collect another 15 points.
Briggsdale's only points occurred in fourth quarter when they earned eight points.
Peetz' Tre Fehringer, senior, completed six of nine passes for 163 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Jake Curlee three once for 29 yards.
Senior Hunter White carried the ball three times for 104 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Alex Curlee caught the ball twice for total of 37 yards, once resulting in a touchdown. Sircy caught the ball four times for 149 yards and one touchdown and junior Gage Travis caught one for six yards and a touchdown.
Tre Fehringer lead the team in yards with 163, followed by Logan Sircy with 153. Sircy had seven yards rushing and 149 yards receiving. As a team, Peetz had 367 offensive yards: 193 passing, 175 rushing and 192 receiving.
Defensively, the Bulldogs had 54 tackles in their game against Briggsdale. Senior Hunter White, and junior Gage Travis lead the team with nine each, followed by junior Bryson Long with seven total tackles.
The Bulldogs travel to New Raymer Saturday to play Prairie at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs have a 3-0 home record, 1-0 on the road. Prairie will enter the game with a 5-0 record.
