Leyton's Lady Warriors improved to 8-3 on the season thanks to a pair of straight-set wins in triangular action in Dalton Tuesday.
Leyton made short work of Garden County in the evening opener, winning 25-12, 25-10 led by the attack of senior Taylor Borgess' eight kills, with sophomore Madelyn Watchorn adding six.
The ladies from Oshkosh challenged Bayard in the middle match, staying with the Lady Tigers 25-21 before the pace caught up with them and Bayard rolled to a 25-6 straight-set win.
Leyton jumped to a quick lead and maintained it in the nightcap, winning the first set over Bayard 25-19.
But down doesn't mean out, particularly in the momentum-heavy game of volleyball. Bayard fought back hard, tied, and took the lead from Leyton midway in the second set.
That's when the Lady Warriors dug deep, finding renewed strength in themselves and their game as they scratched back from a 20-18 deficit to win the second set 25-20.
"They stood strong and played together," Leyton Coach Jodi Craig said afterward.
"I'm proud of them where they were down but didn't give up," Craig said.
Craig said she felt her team found a new level in their play in that second set comeback, coming away with the knowledge that they have the ability to accomplish such a feat.
"They played to win instead of playing not to lose," Craig said.
Borgess again led the Leyton attack with five kills, while Watchorn came up with five big blocks on defense.
