Lady Red Raiders shine in home opener

Sidney's Lady Raiders gave the home town crowd a treat in their home opener Tuesday, using a powerful net game to notch a straight-set, 25-14, 25-22, 25-15 win over Mitchell.

Sidney opened up a quick lead in the first set, surging ahead 11-6 before Mitchell used its first timeout to try and stem the tide.

The strategy worked to an extent as the Lady Tigers were able to score a couple of points to Sidney's four, before the Lady Raiders got the momentum going again to outscore the visitors 10-6 for a quick first set finish.

Mitchell managed to keep pace with their hosts in the second set and took their first lead, 15-14. The teams battled back and forth for a few points, and after trailing by as many as four points, Mitchell tied the score at 22 before a final Sidney rally ended the set.
