The Sidney Red Raiders football team lost at home to the Aurora Huskies Friday 24-48.
The game could be called a contest of two halves as the Red Raiders kept up with the Huskies, scoring point for point for most of two quarters, before the momentum of the game completely changed.
The first quarter ended evenly at 14 each. Aurora came back in the second quarter to add 13 while capping Sidney at only 7 for a 27-21 half, Aurora with a six-point advantage.
The Red Raiders were the first to put points on the board with a run at about 8:37 in the first. Aurora's first occurred about five minutes later from short yardage. Aurora's two-point conversion failed and it was a 21-20 game.
The Huskies put the first points on the board in the second half with a touchdown pass from short yardage at about 6:23 in the third quarter. The third quarter ended with the hosting Red Raiders shut out and Aurora gaining 13 for a 21-33 score.
Aurora scored two more times in the fourth quarter while Sidney put up one field goal to reach the final of 24-48.
Derek Robb lead the Red Raiders rushing with 17 carries for 191 yards, averaging 11.2 yards per carry. Robb also had one kickoff return for 20 yards. Senior Bret Jaggers also returned two kickoffs for a total of 33 yards.
The Red Raiders travel to McCook Friday. McCook has a 2-0 record so far, defeating Aurora 38-8 Aug. 25 and Gering 45-9 on Sept. 1.
