Red Raiders fall in close contests to North Platte, Ogallala

The Sidney Red Raiders volleyball team competed in the North Platte Tri on Aug. 31, falling twice to strong competition.

Coach Lu Howard said the event included several good teams. Sidney lost to North Platte 18-25, 20-25, then to Ogallala in another close match: 21-25 and 17-25.

Sidney recorded 17 kills against North Platte as a team with junior Peyton Jung leading the effort with eight of her own, followed by sophomore Mattie Johnson. Sidney had 20 kills against Ogallala with Johnson leading the effort recording eight of her own. Junior Payton Jung had four, senior N. Radcliffe had three, and seniors Kristina Davis and Julia Evertson had two each. In serving, Sidney finished with a 76.9 percent against Ogallala and 89.9 percent against North Platte.

"Those were some good teams. We still have work to do, but girls demonstrate high level of play and we feel confident it will get only better from here," Howard said after the tournament.

The Red Raiders played Mitchell at home Tuesday. Mitchell entered the contest with a 2-0 record, while Sidney entere the court with an 0-2 record. The match is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.
