Coach impressed with first day out
The Sidney High School girls golf team opened the season with the Sidney Invitational Tuesday at Hillside Golf Course with nine teams competing.
Gering High School won the tournament with a team score of 359, followed by Scottsbluff with 370, Ogallala with 381, Sidney at 389, McCook 410, Chadron 420, Gothenburg 434, Lexington 435 and Bridgeport 451.
Sidney is lead by Emma Alexander with a total of 86, followed by Tiara Ginther with 97, Paige Langley at 98, Dru Rowan with a 108, and Janay Brauer at 115.
"It was great to see where we are, and just how far we have to go," says Sidney coach Ryan Plummer.
He said the team will continue to address weaknesses and get better as the season moves forward.
"Overall, I'm pleased with our tournament on Tuesday (Aug. 22) an am excited for the season."
Alexander also placed among the top golfers in the tournament. The top placers were Shelby Poynter of Scottsbluff with a 74, Alpine Hickstei of Chaderon with a 78, Kira Mestl of Ogallala with an 80, and Kenzy Kanno of Mitchell with an 82.
The golf team next travels to Scottsbluff Monday, Aug 28, and the JV team goes to Kimball Aug. 29 and varsity travels to Scottsbluff.
