Sidney’s downtown Hickory Square will come alive Friday as the Downtown Sounds Music in the Square series kicks off for the summer.
Based on a recommendation from officials in neighboring Alliance, The Max Temple Band from Spearfish, South Dakota will bring to The Square sounds influenced by Stevie Ray Vaughn, The Allman Brothers, B. B. King, Eric Clapton, Tinsley Ellis, Boston, Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen and others.
The five-member group kicks off the third season of Downtown Sounds, which brings the community together downtown.
“We began by creating a community event that would being people downtown and utilize Hickory Square,” said Cheyenne County Tourism Director Heather Hausmann. “We wanted something fun for families to do and to come down and enjoy our wonderful downtown.”
The event has proven well received, with larger crowds enjoying the music each time. Hausmann said in making event plans, organizers look at the genres represented in the past and try to rotate types of music.
“And we try to use local entertainment whenever possible,” Hausmann said.
The event is organized by the Cheyenne County Tourism Board, the City of Sidney and the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce. This year, Viaero Wireless has joined as a corporate sponsor.
The concert runs from 6-8:30 p.m. Night of Hope will be on the grounds to sell snacks, and Viaero will provide water for concert attendees.
