In Monday’s Sidney School Board meeting, sixth grade student council members presented Gallup Poll results to the Board.
According to Sidney Public School (SPS) Superintendent, Jay Ehler, the Gallup Poll is a survey that measures engagement, hope, entrepreneurial aspiration, and career literacy.
Fifth and sixth grade students participated in the survey that asked questions about their involvement and enthusiasm for school, ideas for the future, talent and energy for building businesses and information, attitude and behaviors that students need to practice for healthy participation in the economy.
The purpose of the survey is to find ways to improve as a school, West Elementary School Counselor Carla Brauer said.
“I think the survey results definitely showed us that we are on track with our focus on engagement strategies,” Brauer said. “We also are seeing positive results from our efforts toward building relationships with students.”
The results of the 24-question survey are averaged and compared to those on a national level.
Brauer said she decided to invite the sixth grade student council to step into a leadership role and share the results of the survey with the students and the Board.
“Students are always taking tests and often times do not get to see the results,” Brauer said.
The student council presented the results in Monday’s School Board meeting, and will visit each class at West this week, to share the results with the students.
“The results are very positive,” Ehler said. “We scored higher in every category compared to the national average.”
