The sun broke through the clouds, giving warmth to the gentle breeze, providing the promise of a nice time for golf.
Problem was, that brief window of warmth came after the close of regulation play at the Sidney Invitational Golf Tournament. Prior to that, players fought stiff winds and cold temperatures that placed the wind chill just above freezing for most of the day.
"This is the first time I've ever played a whole round wearing a stocking cap," Sidney golfer Elliot Jones said while players warmed themselves in the club house waiting for results.
At tournament's end, players scrambled inside as mist turned to light rain and into a rain/sleet mix.
As results were tabulated, the score board showed host Sidney and Gering tied for the lead in team standings at 364 points each.
