Car windows broken across city

Sidney Police Department is investigating damage to multiple vehicles that took place across Sidney Wednesday evening.

“We are investigating a series of car windows getting broken throughout the community,” SPD Chief Joe Aikens said. “We’re thinking it took place sometime over the night time hours.”

Aikens said nine vehicles had been reported damaged by Thursday morning.

There are no suspects at this time. How the vehicles were damaged has not been determined.

“We’re not totally sure if it was BB guns with this particular incident,” Aikens said.

This sort of vandalism has occurred in Sidney before, Aikens said.

“It’s been a couple of years since we’ve had this happen,” he said. “The last group we ended up catching the guy. It’s hard to tell. We’ll know when we catch these guys.”

Aikens is encouraging anyone in the community who has had their vehicles damaged to report it to the police.

“At least one of the people we contacted this morning wasn’t even going to call us,” Aikens said Thursday. “But I would encourage all citizens, if they have damage to their homes or cars, to get a hold of us.”

He added, “We can’t get restitution for damages when we catch someone if we don’t have all of our victims.”
