After delaying a decision through two meetings, the Sidney City Council approved a resolution establishing truck routes throughout the city.
In its final discussion prior to setting the initial routes, council altered the proposes routes, adding a section of Hickory Street and South 11th Avenue from the Toledo Street area to its intersection with Fort Sidney Road.
The routes, proposed as one part of Sidney’s overall road improvement plan, were set to limit heavy truck traffic on city streets, nearly all built when vehicles were smaller and lighter. City Manager Ed Sadler told council during the series of discussions that by initiating truck routes, which had been provided for within city ordinances but never established, it would be the beginning of a process to improve overall street conditions.
