After working on the Sinful Sidney Sesquicentennial Celebration for almost ten months, joint efforts between the city of Sidney, the Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce and the Cheyenne County Visitors Center continue pushing the event towards preparedness.
At its Jan. 17 meeting, the Cheyenne County Board of Commissioners made a successful motion to support the sesquicentennial – which will take place in fall 2017 – and waive fees for the event’s use of the fairgrounds. At that meeting, Chamber President-CEO Denise Wilkinson presented the commissioners with the event’s schedule.
The activities start on Friday, Aug. 18 with a proclamation at Camp Lookout, followed by an experience of the seedy side of Sidney: complete with gamblers, cowboys and saloon girls. This part of the festivities is reserved for mature audiences only.
The “seedy side” experience will be followed by a melodrama of the complete abridged history of America at the Sidney Elks Lodge, also intended for mature audiences.
The festivities open up for all ages on Saturday, Aug. 19 with the Smokin’ Gun 5k Run/Walk and the Sinful Sidney Parade.
