Giving back to the community they serve and protect

Local youth got a chance to spend some time with Sidney law enforcement officers Saturday, shopping and getting to know the men and women in blue in a different capacity.

The "Shop with a Cop" program was implemented this year by the members of the Sidney Police Department Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge #43.

A press release by the Sidney PD stated, "In the past, the FOP has purchased Christmas dinners for families needing assistance during the holidays. This year, the FOP will be funding the "Shop with a Cop" program. This program is being utilized around the nation and identifies families in need of financial assistance to provide gifts for the entire family."

Saturday, five children went Christmas shopping with local police officers, the group shopped at local stores before having lunch together at Cabela's.

"We get to go shopping with kids in our community who may need a little extra help this holiday season, and we also get to build a relationship with these kids," Officer Jennifer Woodis, event coordinator said.
