Florence Bernice Ludeman was born to Ekke and Johanna Miller on December 22, 1924 on a farm nine miles east of Gurley, NE. She had two brothers, Alvin and Verne, and four sisters, Irene, Kay, Bonita, and Clara. She was baptized and confirmed at Weyerts Immanuel Church and attended a country school less than a mile away where she helped teach other children. She attended high school in Sidney, NE where she played bass fiddle in the band and graduated in 1942.
