Thanksgiving evokes images of football, family reunions, roasted turkey with stuffing, and pumpkin pie, with the holiday upon us area businesses will be closed in observance.
Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated in Canada and the United States, as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. Thanksgiving is celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada and on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States.
The event that Americans commonly call the “First Thanksgiving” was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in 1621.
In observance of Thanksgiving, the following businesses will be closed, Thursday and Friday.
All city departments will be closed including the Landfill, Library and the Dial-a-ride Bus and Stage Line Bus will not be running.
The Solid Waste Department will be collecting Thursday and Friday’s trash on Wednesday, November 23.
Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce, Cheyenne County Court House and Government offices will be closed.
The Sidney Sun Telegraph will be closed, and there will be no Friday newspaper.
Area banks will be closed Thursday, with regular business hours on Friday, with the exception of Sidney Federal Savings and Loans, and Points West banks, who are closed Thursday, and will be open 8 a.m. to noon on Friday.
On Saturday, November 26, the Library will also be closed and the Stage Line Bus will be running its regular fixed route schedule.
