The Sidney Police Department received a medication disposal bin through a grant from CVS pharmacy which arrived last week.
Twice a year, the police department holds a medication destruction event where citizens can bring in their expired or unused prescriptions to the department to be disposed of correctly.
Cheif Aikens said "this bin gives citizens an opportunity to bring in their expired or unused prescriptions year round instead of having to wait until we hold the next destruction event."
Aikens stressed the importance of disposing of unused and expired prescriptions properly "flushing medications down the toilet or throwing them away increases the risk of the medication entering the soil or water, it also increases the risk of someone getting ahold of the medication that should not have it."
