Veterans Day is held on November 11, and is recognized as a National Holiday. In observance of this holiday, some area businesses will be closed Friday.
In 1954 the proclamation that made Veterans day a National Holiday, President Eisenhower said “Whereas it has long been our custom to commemorate November, 11, the anniversary of the ending of World War I, by paying tribute to the heros of that tragic struggle and by redirecting ourselves to the cause of peace. Whereas in the intervening years the United States has been involved in two other great military conflicts, which have added millions of veterans living and dead to the honor rolls of this nation.
“In order to ensure proper and widespread observance of this anniversary, all veterans, all veteran’s organizations, and the entire citizenry will wish to join hand in a common purpose.
In observance of Veterans Day the following businesses will be closed Friday:
The City of Sidney, all city departments will be closed including the Landfill and the Library.
Solid Waste Department will be collecting Friday’s trash on Thursday, November 10 and Thursday’s trash on Wednesday, November 9.
Dial-a-ride Bus and Stage Line Bus will not be running.
Cheyenne County Chamber of Commerce, Cheyenne County Court House and Government offices will be closed.
American Bank, Sidney Federal Savings and Loans, Great Western, Security First, and Points West banks will all be closed.
