Halloween safety tips

With Halloween quickly approaching, parents are recommended to educate their children on the Halloween safety, to remain as safe as possible, while having a good time trick-or-treating.

The National Safety Council gives the following safety tips to parents and children for Halloween safety, while trick-or-treating a parent or responsible adult should always accompany young children on the neighborhood rounds.

If older children are going alone, plan and review the route that is acceptable to you.

Parents and children should agree on a specific time when children should return home if they are old enough to trick-or-treat alone or with a group of friends.

Children should only go to homes with a porch light on and never enter a home or car for a treat.

It is recommended that all costumes, wigs and accessories should be fire-resistant.

If parents allow children out after dark, parents should fasten reflective tape to their costumes and bags to make sure they are visible.

When parents are buying Halloween makeup, make sure it is nontoxic and always test it in a small area first.

Parents and children should remove all makeup before children go to bed to prevent skin and eye irritation.

Parents should instruct your children to travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and avoid trick-or-treating alone.

Parents should stress to their children not to eat any treats until they return home.

Parents should teach their children to never enter a stranger's home or car.

Children and adults are reminded to put electronic devices down, keep heads up and walk, don't run, across the street.

Motorist need to watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs.

Motorist should enter and exit driveways and alleys carefully.

Motorist should watch for children in dark clothing.
