Sidney's Emma Alexander realized her goal of a top-10 finish at the state golf tournament this week, capping her third appearance at state.
Alexander shot 88-83 in the tournament, held at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus Tuesday and Wednesday. Alexander finished tenth, a particularly sweet ending to a season that had an unsure beginning.
That unsure start came due to abdominal surgery, which kept her off of the golf course over the summer and affected her play when she did get back on the course when school began.
"It took a lot of my confidence," Alexander said. "And I was a little afraid I would get hurt."
But following her mantra, for which she credits her dad, Alexander went into the season with a "never give up, never surrender" approach.
By mid-season Alexander's game began to come back, and by the Ogallala Invite, "things started to click."
