Original bond continues for Almond

Edgar Almond appeared in district court Wednesday with his lawyer Steven Elmhauser in front of Honorable judge Weimer.

Almond is being charged with possession of a destructive device, a class IV felony. The charges stem from an incident called in to the police department on Sept. 14, which tipped police off that Almond illegally was making explosive devices in his van.

Elmhauser requested for Almond’s bond to be reduced due to his belief that Almond was not a danger to the public, saying the explosive device was detonated in an abandoned field, and the only explosive materials found was pryodex. Elmhauser also said bond should be reduced because Almond was originally facing multiple felonies and now he only faces one felony.

County Attorney Paul Schaub argued that Almond’s past criminal history includes two assaults, one which was on a police officer, he also said Almond had confessed to detonating an explosive device after he was presented with pieces of a device by a police officer.

Judge Weimer ultimately kept bond as originally set at 10 percent of $50,000. Almond remains in custody in Lincoln County.
