Edgar Almond appeared in Cheyenne County Court on Sept. 27, on charges of first degree unlawful possession of explosives and possession of a destructive device stemming from his arrest on Sept. 15. Almond's ex-wife reported that Almond was "acting crazy" and had bomb-making materials in his van parked in front of her house. Almond's ex-wife also reported Almond had detonated a bomb on the cliffs near East Drive the previous night.
Upon further investigation it was confirmed by area residents that a loud bang sounding like an artillery shell exploded the previous night.
After a K-9 unit performed a sniff investigation on Almond's van, pyrodex which is a substitute for gunpowder, was found as along with fuses and pieces of a pipe bomb. Almond later confessed to detonating the bomb.
Almond has a felony conviction in Texas for arson, and felony convictions in Colorado for assault.
The charge of unlawful possession of explosives has been dropped. Almond still faces a felony charge of possession of a destructive device, which is a class four felony.
Almond's case has been bound over to district court and will appear in court again on Oct. 5 at 8:30 a.m. He is currently being held in Cheyenne County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
