Bulldogs maul Coyotes

PEETZ, Colo. – Three players combined for more than 400 yards of offense to lead the Peetz Bulldogs to a big 59-14 homecoming win over Pawnee here Saturday.

Sophomore Bryson Long passed for 110 yards, rushed for 103, and was on the receiving end of a three-yard pass to put up 213 yards for the Bulldogs, while scoring two touchdowns and a one-point conversion to lead the Peetz offense.

Senior Cody Wilson scored three touchdowns, while rushing for 97 yards and passing for another 31 in his 128 yard day. Sophomore Gage Travis' 110 yards were all as a pass receiver.

While taking it to Pawnee offensively, the Bulldogs also shredded the Coyotes on defense, recovering four fumbles, with two interceptions and a pair of sacks.

Junior Logan Sircy recorded both Peetz interceptions and made one fumble recovery. Long recovered two fumbles, while Travis recovered another.

Peetz spent a good amount of time harassing the Pawnee offense, led by Wilson, James Ommen and Cole White, who each took down Pawnee's quarterback for a sack.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the first quarter, but Pawnee answered to cut the lead to 14-6 with four minutes remaining in the quarter and held the hosts scoreless through the following eight minutes.

Peetz extended its lead to 21-6 four minutes into the second quarter when Travis finished out a 45-yard touchdown play, his lone score of the game.

Pawnee answered on its following possession, but from there it was all Peetz, which outscored the Coyotes 39-8 through the quarter to close the half with a commanding 45-14 lead.

The win lifted Peetz to 3-1 on the season, and Coach Scott Sorensen pointed in part to improvements in the Peetz defense as a big part of the team's dominance.

"To do what they did today, especially on a homecoming day, was great," Sorensen said. He was happy with the way players were able to set aside the distractions of the day and play the way they did.

The best thing, he said, "was offensively, there were no blocking mistakes – our execution was real good," Sorensen said.

Briggsdale is next up for the Bulldogs, and Sorensen said he hopes for the same intensity in preparing for Friday's game as this week's.

"We need to do what we did here," Sorensen said. "We need to keep the defense chugging away."
