Bayne wins week 1 football contest

A perfect set of picks in the college games set up the week one winner of the Sidney Sun-Telegraph football contest.

Troy Bayne of Sidney missed only three pro games on his way to winning the first weekly prize of the year, a $25 gift certificate at Sonny’s Super Foods.

Myron Leypoldt was just one pick behind, missing two college and two pro games. Three contestants missed five games.

The jumble of players with five misses brought out the need for an important reminder for contestants.

“We had the three entries with five misses before either of the other leaders came out,” said Sun-Telegraph editor Don Ogle. “It looked like the winner might come out of that group, but we saw a potential problem for one of those players.”

That problem, Ogle said, was that one of the entries did not include a tie breaker score on their contest form.

“Without that tie breaker being on the form, that person would have been eliminated, because even a number one on another form would have been closer,” Ogle said. “So for your own sake, please double-check your entry,”
