Sidney football players make their first, and longest, road trip during the regular season today, travelling to Aurora to meet the Huskies.
Sidney enters the game coming off a 49-7 win over Lexington, while Aurora is 0-1 after dropping its first game to Class B powerhouse McCook last week.
In its first outing, Sidney's offense produced 406 rushing yards and six touchdowns between five players.
Derek Robb and Cade Lewis led the Raider ground attack, with 120 and 106 yards, respectively.
Last week, the Raider defense held fast against potential scoring attacks and loggesd 74 tackles. Robb had 11 of those, with Coby Haas and Jon Smith getting in on the action with nine tackles each. The Raiders found their way into their opponent's backfield four times for sacks.
Sidney Coach Chris Koozer said the Raiders have had a good week of practice, working on many of the areas coaches wanted.
Koozer said the Raiders know they have a big challenge in facing last year's Clas B state runnerup. Koozer said the Huskies spread out then attack with a balanced offense. Last week against McCook, Aurora's offense was about equally split between run and passing plays.
"We need to play great team defense," Koozer said of the plan to contain Aurora. "It's going to take 11 guys going after the ball every time."
As for Sidney's offense, Koozer said the Raiders are going to have to let its passing game evolve more. Last week, Sidney saw great success on the ground, but completed just two passes for 14 yards.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT and the game will be streamed on SRTV at http://www.sidneyraiders.tv/.
