Costs for school supplies can become quite a strain on a families budget, and Table of Grace mobile food pantry has continued to strive to help alleviate those costs for families by providing school supplies and food to families in need around the area.
Table of Grace Mobile Food Pantry is a "helping hand" mission program of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney.
This non-profit organization has been distributing food and school supplies to families in our area since 2009 and is spearheaded by volunteer Timm Lindemann.
According to the National Retail Federation Back-to-School Spending Survey the average family with children in grades K-12 plans to spend over $600 on electronics, apparel and other school needs.
Table of Grace works with other groups and volunteers in the panhandle to help provide the school supplies to area students.
"We provide everything on the school supplies list," Deb Aikens, the church's administrative assistant said. "This gives every student the chance to have school supplies, which no child should go without."
In aiding the community, Table of Grace also holds a food pantry five times a month in the tri-county area.
"Just this year we have served over 250 families," Aikens said.
Food distributed to the community is purchased from the Food Bank for the Heartland. Food Bank for the Heartland is a member of Feeding America, who partners with Wal-Mart to aid in the effort to stop hunger.
Aikens said, the Table of Grace hosts local food drives and rummage sales to purchase food for the multiple pantry's.
Community donations and grants also aid in the continuing efforts, said Aikens.
There are no income guidelines, and proof of income is not required to receive food. Residents are welcome to attend any and all five of the food pantry's around the area.
The Mobile Food Pantry is held in Chappel at St. Josephs's Catholic Church, the first Tuesday, Lodgepole at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church the second Saturday, Sidney at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church the third Thursday, Potter at Prairie West Church and Oshkosh at St. Mark's Lutheran Church the last Saturday of every month.
A rummage sale to benefit the Table of Grace's efforts will be held Saturday August 6, from 8 a.m. to noon p.m. at 1125 Alvarado rd. in Sidney.
