Hog riders travel state for a special cause

Hog riders get in touch with their “feminine side” for a special cause, as they travel across the state this weekend from Manley to Gurley.

While discussing different event ideas, members of Frontier HOG in Lincoln conceptualized the Fun Run motorcycle ride that will span the length of the state.

“It sort of started out as joke and has become so much more,” said Ride Coordinator Brad Christensen.

Frontier HOG began in 1987 when Dave and Deb Fischer opened Frontier Harley-Davidson in Lincoln, the chapter now has 700 members.

Starting in Manley, 30 minutes east of Lincoln, on July 9 at 8 a.m. (central time) with a breakfast at the Hide Away Bar and a group photo. Riders are encouraged to take any route they choose on their trip east.

Rendezvousing at the Loading Chute Bar and Grill in Gurley around 5:30 p.m., taking one last group photo at the South Gurley Highway sign, before dinner at 6 p.m.

The Fun Run is not just an opportunity for motorcycle riders to enjoy the sights of Nebraska, its also a fund raising event.

“We purchased bright pink bandanas that are available for purchase,” Christensen said, “they are on sale at participating Harley dealerships and hosting bars.”

All the proceeds go to the Dorwart Cancer Center to help aid in breast cancer awareness and treatment.

“Areas like Omaha and Lincoln have a lot of opportunity for fund raising,” said Christensen, “we wanted to give to a community that didn’t have as many fund raising options.”

Bandanas are printed with the various sponsors names and one hundred percent of the profits go to the cancer center.

“We are going to eat the cost of the bandanas and donate the full amount,” said Christensen, “we printed 600 and are hoping to sell all of them.”

“We now have flags for the bikes, available for purchase,” Rhonda Rummel, Owner of the Loading Shute bar and grill said, “and pink ribbons, that people are buying and putting in memory of, or names on them and we are hanging them around the bar.”

If anyone is interested in riding with the Fun Run or for more information contact Rhonda Rummel at 308-884-9400.
