Sidney Regional Medical Center (SRMC) hosted a free community event Tuesday evening, bringing Author Joe Tye to the Sidney High School Auditorium.
Author of twelve books, Tye is the CEO and Head Coach of Values Coach, which provides consulting, training and coaching on values-based leadership and cultural transformation for different entities including hospitals.
Prior to founding Values Coach in 1994, Joe was chief operating officer for a large community teaching hospital. On the volunteer front, he was founding president of the Association of Air Medical Services and a leading activist fighting against unethical tobacco industry marketing practices. Tye and his wife Sally have two adult children. The couple lives on a small farmstead in Iowa, and their second home is a tent in the Grand Canyon.
Director of marketing and public relations for SRMC, Evie Ranslem-Parsons said, this is a return visit for Tye to SRMC and Sidney.
“There are two types of seminars being given while he is here,” said Parsons. “He will be working with our directors and administration and then presenting to all staff as part of his visit, then he will give a presentation for the community.”
Geared to the current U.S. Climate, the community presentation hits some key topics, revolving around the quote, “Fear is a reaction, courage is a decision. Perseverance is making that decision everyday.”
“The community presentation is designed to support the community with how to handle some of the uncertainty we are facing from both local and national pressures that are impacting us,” said Parsons, “SRMC was pleased to be able to offer this opportunity to the community.”
In previous visits, Tye has been instrumental at guiding the SRMC staff to use the adage “proceed until apprehended,” which Parsons said is intended to help the staff make decisions and take initiative to solving and resolving issues and making a difference when working with others, not just in the SRMC facility but with family and friends.
“He is a great motivational speaker,” Parsons said, “his values program has been adapted by many healthcare systems across the United States.”
Honor, stewardship, partnership, commitment, passion are a few of the values discussed and adopted in the values program. The program’s intention is to transform people and organizations by developing and delivering resources to promote values-based life and leadership skills.
