Jacob Spachek has been selected as the Sidney Rotary Club Scholarship recipient for 2016.
Spachek, son of Kurt and Linda Spachek stated that he would be attending Kansas State
University this fall and plans to study mechanical engineering.
The Rotary scholarship is for $1,000.00 and is provided by the fund-raising activities of the local Rotary International Club.
When asked about those interviewing for the annual scholarship, Club President and committee
member, Tom Hyde said, "All of the applicants were outstanding, and the decision, as usual, was
extremely difficult."
"I think all of the candidates had excellent credentials." Committee member, Jim Holechek
said.
Hyde continued, "Jacob Spachek's commitment to service in the community and elsewhere
impressed the committee as the candidate that best exemplified Rotary's Motto: 'Service above
Self'".
"I thought Jacob's mission trip certainly met that criteria, best," Holechek said. "We also felt
that the work he did to become an Eagle Scout was a real plus."
"Our club enjoys interviewing such good kids who are graduating from Sidney High. It's always
a heartening experience to our members," Scholarship Committee Chair, Greg Scripp said
about the annual selection process. "Whether continuing a post-secondary education or pursuing
job opportunities, the Sidney Rotary Club wishes all of the seniors continued success in their
endeavors."
For more than 91 years, the Sidney Rotary Club has maintained a presence in Sidney, supporting
youth activities such as summer baseball, Boy's State, CASA, the Rotary Youth Leadership
Award Camp, business and student foreign exchange programs and the Rotary Scholarship.
