CREEK VALLEY'S TRIP TO CHIMNEY ROCK

Students learn value from old journals

Last week, 15 third grade students from Creek Valley Elementary School traveled to Chimney Rock in Morrill County.

"I actually went to school here when I was in elementary school, and we went to Chimney Rock," teacher Heather Gonzalez said. "So I thought it would be a fun trip to take as a teacher with my third grade students."

Gonzalez said her students watched to video presentation and toured the museum.

"We learned quickly that it was a good thing we learned cursive," she said. "So that we could read those old journal entries."

The students had lunch outside after the museum tour, but ended their trip early after the weather took a turn. Gonzalez said her students drew pictures of Chimney Rock one they returned to the classroom, as well as reviewed facts they learned on the trip.
