Leyton boys, Potter girls win D-11 titles

MORRILL – Martin Boyer and Jacob Ernest let the Leyton boys to the Class D District-11 track title here Wednesday, showing promise for a good Warrior showing when they travel to the Class D state meet, which begins Friday and Saturday, May 20 and 21 at Burke Stadium in Omaha.

Boyer's attack came mainly on the track, where he raced to first pace in both the 100 and 200 meters, then joined teammates Kenny Ernest, Zach Hellie and Kordell Maestes to take the gold on the 4x100 Relay. Boyer added the long jump title, outdistancing the field with a 19-foot, 7-inch performance.

Ernest's contribution to the Leyton team points came in the weights, where he captured titles in the shot put and discus. Ernest eclipsed the field in both events, putting the shot 47-feet, three and a half inches, and zinging the discus 147-feet, 11 inches.

The Warriors scored 126 team points in their title quest, outdistancing second place Crawford, which scored 95.

On the girls side, Potter's balance with seven individual titles earned the team championship with 129 points.

Alexis Rozell was a two event champion for the Lady Coyotes, earning wins in the shot and discus. Page Hoffman added a win in the 300 meter hurdles and ran a leg on the winning 4x400 relay team.

Also contributing first place points for Potter were Regyn Hicks in the 800 meter and Trinity Langley in the triple jump. Hicks was also a member of the 4x400 relay team.
