Today as I drove my big "ole" yellow Sidney school bus into the bus barn, I realized the tank was getting close to empty. Knowing Rod our maintenance man was out on a driving assignment and I needed diesel today, Tim said he would fill it for me. I told him I would follow him to the station as I did not have a credit card. He gladly agreed to have me go with him and we filled up both buses. As we were standing there waiting for the pump to kick off giving us an indication that the tanks were filled, my mind went drifting off as it so easily does.
Many times our spiritual gas tank needs refilled as well. There are times when we are spiritually running low and need re-fueled. What are some tell-tale signs that we know the fuel tank gage is on E? Let's look at just a few of these things and share some thoughts on how to re-fuel our tanks spiritually. Normally we do not wait until the bus is sputtering from lack of fuel before we fill it up.
As we view our fuel gage, many times weariness is a tell tale sign of low fuel. We lack energy in our spirit to get down the road of life. Physical issues, are like being hit with mechanical difficulties, maybe even carbonation problems. Discouragement could be another problem bogging us down from dirty gas filled with impurities. Family issues may have caused your tires to go flat and your travel time has been effected. Other minor or major problems with the engine may have deflated your self-esteem. We could go on and on, but I think you get the picture. Our life is sometimes filled with break-downs with our vehicles and our spiritual walk with God. These things can be just right around the corner or the next bend in the road. Life is full of curves!
Begin to speak life into yourself. Read positive stories that are up-lifting and give your battery a charge. Listen to what Philippians 4:8-9 (MSG) speaks to us about, "Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious-the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies."
The main reason your windshield is bigger than your rear view mirror is because you need to see where you are going more than where you have been. Fuel up with high octane fuel spiritually and you will see a big difference in your performance. Many times I refer to our church as a fueling station, a place where you can get filled up and encouraged with positive things. If you do not have a good home church where you can re-fuel for life's ups and downs, find one. God wants your life to run like a well oiled machine that has a great ride and operates well at high speeds. We invite you to come re-fuel with us at Christian Life Center, CLC Sidney, where God can touch your life for eternity. Hope to see you Sunday. Blessings!
